Safecation at The Royal Sonesta New Orleans

I finally understand what people mean when they talk about the relationship between a mother and son. Since the loss of Moe, we have been closer than ever. Mojo asked me if we could just “travel the world together?” I thought about it and that’s something that his father and I used to say. It sounded like a dream but then I realized that I could make it a reality. At that moment, I decided that Mojo and I would travel together and create new memories. We took our first trip to Dallas in February. Then Covid 19 hit. Our travel plans were put on hold. Mojo wasn’t going to let that stop us. You see, he quickly reminded me that we used to have staycations all of the time. He was right. We could book “Mommy and Me” staycations until we are able go travel again!
Now let me tell you about Mojo, in case you don’t know him. He loves hotels with amenities. If there isn’t a rooftop pool or a cabana, he will pass. I wonder who he gets that from?
We booked a “safecation” at The Royal Sonesta New Orleans. I packed our pajamas and swimsuits and headed downtown. As soon as we arrived to check in, I felt at ease. There was limited-contact check-in and check-out. All guests and team members are required to wear face coverings in all indoor public areas.

For our first night, we opted to dine in the room. Of course, I had my glass of Rose’. In Room dining from the Desire Oyster Bar was available from 7am-10pm. Mojo had his eyes on the pool, which was open with a bar from 11am-7pm. I promised him that we would hit the pool the first thing in the morning. We ended the night with our traditional pillow fight.

It should be no surprise that Mojo woke up at the crack of dawn to head to the pool. You know what they say about making promises to kids. Well, before I headed there I would need breakfast. We walked down to the Desire Oyster Bar and ordered breakfast. Then, thank goodness for PJ’s Coffee.

It was time for the pool…at 7:30 am! The Oasis Bar didn’t open until 11am, so we played in the pool and soaked up some sun.

We worked up an appetite and ordered lunch. This was the perfect time to relax under the cabana. Mojo ordered his own special drink, The Flamingo. Momma had a pina colada with an extra shot!

We spent the rest of the evening watching TV and eating ice cream (Momma loves instacart) until we fell asleep.

I know that COVID is tough on parents, but it is also taking a toll on kids. I am constantly looking for things to do with my son safely away from home. A staycation is always an option. It allows you to change the scenery. You would be amazed at how much this makes a difference. Right now the hospitality industry would appreciate any kind of support that we can give.

We are definitely looking into our staycation/vacation! We had one planned this weekend in Orange Beach, but Hurricane Sally changed our plans.

Have you traveled during the pandemic? What about a staycation?
