How to Create a Self-Care Plan

Do you have a self-care plan? One thing that we have all learned from the pandemic, is that taking care of ourselves should be a priority. Self-care is an important part of staying healthy and happy. If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t expect to be able to take care of others. You need to make sure that your needs are met before you can be there for anyone else. Creating a self-care plan is how you keep yourself at the top of the to do list.

Whenever you need to refill your cup, this plan is what you pour from. Think of it as a guide to maintain your health and wellness. The first step in creating a successful self-care plan, is to identify your love language. Knowing your love language allows you to select activities that you will enjoy on those days when you are feeling depleted. The five love languages are: Quality Time, Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Receiving Gifts and Acts of Service. If you aren’t sure, take the quiz.

As a busy woman you probably don’t spend too much time thinking about self-care. The most common reasons for not practicing self-care are not having enough time, feeling guilty, and cost. Your plan allows you to select activities that you can fit into your daily schedule and budget.

Successful Self-Care Plan Tips

  • Schedule some time for Self-Care on your calendar

Pull out one of those planners and a pen (not a pencil) and schedule some “Me Time.” Just like you schedule meetings and kid’s activities, put yourself on the calendar. Don’t cancel it. You are that VIP client.

  • Create a list of Self-Care activities based on your love language

Having a list of “go to” activities makes it easy to practice self-care when you need it. You might enjoy taking a bubble bath, going for a run, cooking your favorite dish or shopping at your favorite boutique.

  • Create a Self-Care Budget

Self-care doesn’t always mean splurging. Most people think of luxurious spa days or vacations. Self-care can be free or you can create a monthly budget for your favorite activities. Did you know that massages or acupuncture may be covered by FSA?

  • Know the 6 Types of Self-Care

A successful self-care plan includes all 6 types of self-care. They are Physical, Emotional, Mental, Spiritual, Practical and Social.
