My First Solo Trip as a Widow
I went on my first solo trip as a widow in May and it was everything that I needed. After Moe passed, I planned on solo travel around the world, but Covid had other plans. I booked several trips, only to cancel them after cases continued to rise. I became fully vaccinated in January, and not being able to travel started to take a toll on my mental health. The school year was coming to an end, so I made the decision to book a trip to Phoenix, Arizona. A quick weekend trip was what needed to relax and recharge.
I boarded my Southwest flight and as I looked out the window, the tears started to flow. I couldn’t text him to let him know that I was about to take off. I wouldn’t be able to call him when I landed to say that “I made it.”

I checked into the AAA Four Diamond JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge and it was just what I needed for my weekend retreat. This resort property had an on-site spa, golf course, five pools and restaurants.
Hotel Room
I booked the Mountain View Balcony King and the view was breathtaking. There was a robe and slippers in the closet. The bath amenities were Aromatherapy Associates. I had the best night’s sleep ALONE.

Revive Spa
I felt refreshed and rejuvenated with an 80 min Aroma Massage at the Revive Spa. The oil that I selected was Deep Peace and it contained clary sage, patchouli, Vetiver and Sweet Orange. Deep peace promotes deep inner calm and a relaxation of body mind and emotions.

Fun in the Sun
I spent the day sipping a pina colada poolside while reading a book. Everything was so beautiful. I couldn’t help but notice the other couples and at that moment, I wished that Moe was there. The property also had a lazy river. I got in and laid my head back and floated my cares away.

JW Griffin Club
I decided to elevate my stay with the Griffin Club’s exclusive experience. Club access included a space to relax and enjoy complimentary food and beverages throughout the day. The view was breathtaking.

Widow Sister
When I landed in Phoenix, I opened Instagram and saw a post from Nora Mclnery. The geo-location was Phoenix, AZ and I immediately sent her a text! There were so many emotions going through my head, and it was so good to be able to talk to another widow about solo travel.

This trip was just what I needed. I was able to cry, journal and most importantly, exhale. I’m looking forward to documenting my solo travel as The FLY Widow. Stay tuned for the next destination.
